Celebrating 40 years, with South Hills Jewelers!

Pittsburghers have said “I do” for four decades at South Hills Jewelers. They’ve marked milestones, celebrated birthdays, and found a unique piece of jewelry that will last for a lifetime. We’ve always welcomed everyone that walks through our doors with open arms. As we celebrate forty, it’s as much our customer’s celebration as ours!

From its founding days, South Hills Jewelers has been a family business and continues to be a labor of love and care, whether it was the original Silver & Gold Exchange in Dormont or our current site on Library Road in Bethel Park. Let’s take a brief history lesson, shall we?

Robert Taylor, Sr., founded Dormont’s Silver & Gold Exchange in 1982. It was the crown jewel, so to speak, of his empire. With the help of his son, Robert Taylor Jr., who now owns and operates the business, and a small team of loyal employees, he transformed the small company into a full-service facility offering everything from cleaning, inspection, and appraisals to watch repair and estate jewelry.

Though there have been some shifts in location, the ideals and morals remain intact. By keeping the ownership in the family, we can maintain the quality of work and keep the family tradition alive. Both qualities are integral to South Hills Jewelers' representation and make our entire staff feel like family. It’s also why we’ve had staff members with us for 15+ years!

With feeling like family also comes trust and community. We know your heirlooms are priceless, which is why Keif, our resident goldsmith and jeweler, works carefully to create and restore your sentimental treasures… all on-site. This includes watch repairs as well. Doing so is vital to us because it’s something that sets us apart from the rest. You’ll never have to worry about something getting lost in transit, because it will only enter and leave our doors by you!

South Hills Jewelers also prides itself on being a one-stop shop offering custom and one-of-a-kind engagement rings, estate jewelry, and a premier collection of bridal pieces.

Our bridal services are one of the most significant parts of our business, and we have an extremely knowledgeable staff regarding all things diamonds and engagement rings. We saw it fit to call our birthday ‘40 Rings For 40 Years’ because we have spent many of our recent years learning about our customer’s love stories, helping find their dream engagement rings, and creating wedding bands to match the said rings.

We love bridal so much that we have a whole section on our website dedicated to engagement or wedding love stories! We’ve talked to childhood sweethearts to folks who went on socially distant, pandemic first dates. These romantic tales will tug at your heartstrings.

We invite our longtime clients and the next generation of bling-lovers to come in and tell us how we can put more sparkle into their lives, whether it's for a birthday, graduation, wedding, or a little self-care retail therapy. Financing is available, and we offer lifetime care packages and advice on how to preserve your gems. If you’re not in the market for new trinkets, we still buy gold and other valuables.

In addition to making Pittsburghers shine, we are committed to uplifting our community. We enjoy donating to local organizations and events. It’s introduced us to some remarkable neighbors that, over the years, have even satisfied customers.

Thank you for taking a walk down memory lane with us, and here’s to another forty years of “I dos!”
